Krk - Mirine
For two days, Mirine becomes a Roman arena as legionaries, gladiators, and visitors gather among the early Christian ruins for evening performances.
On the island of Krk, beside the ancient city and early Christian complex of Mirine, the Legion performs a two-day program set against the summer sunset of mid-July. As the evening light falls over the ruins, the soldiers arm themselves at the edge of the site before marching to the event grounds. The camp opens to visitors, who can explore the tents, speak with the legionaries, and experience Roman life up close.
When the performance begins, the Legion advances into the open space among the remains, where the centurio introduces the unit and its history. Formations follow—every maneuver, shield wall, and command brought to life. A hollow orbem is then formed, enclosing the arena for three gladiatorial matches, with the crowd deciding the fate of the defeated through the ancient gestures of vita or iugula (thumbs up or down). The evening ends with the Legion marching out and sharing local wine and conversation with the visitors.
The second day follows a similar rhythm, continuing the atmosphere of Roman military life beside the timeless stones of Mirine.
