Alba Iulia

Alba Iulia becomes a meeting place of Roman legions and barbarian tribes, featuring authentic camps, formation training, craft displays, and a final battle that showcases the history of the region.

In the heart of Alba Iulia, the ancient world rises again as Legions from across Europe—Romania, Bulgaria, France, and beyond—gather for three days of living history. A vast Roman camp comes alive with soldiers, craftsmen, slaves, and citizens, all dwelling in authentic tents and following the rhythm of military life.

Across the field stands the barbarian camp, filled with archery ranges, weapon displays, handcrafted goods, and fierce warriors preparing for battle. Between the two worlds, the tension builds—raids erupt, gates are defended, and the clash of Rome and the tribes unfolds before the eyes of the public.

Throughout the festival, the Legions train together in grand public drills, over a hundred soldiers moving as one. Visitors witness slave auctions, test ancient weapons, play Roman board games, and explore the fortified wooden gate guarded day and night. On the final day, the celebrations culminate in the pentathlon—five athletic contests of strength and skill—followed by a massive staged battle between Rome and the barbarian tribes, bringing the festival to its peak.
