Igrane

Along the promenade of Igrane, the Legion marches, drills, and presents gladiatorial combat in an evening dedicated to Rome’s living history.

In Igrane, one of the jewel towns of the Makarska Riviera, the Legion arrives for the annual Roman Night, bringing soldiers, chants, and the spirit of the Empire to the seaside promenade. The performance begins with a downhill march into the heart of the town, where the legionaries form a grand procession, singing and chanting as they advance to the far end of the promenade before returning to the gathering crowd.

There, the centurio introduces the Legion, its history, and its purpose before commanding the soldiers through a series of formations. Children are invited to test the strength of the Roman shield wall—pushing, jumping, and striking it to feel its solidity. When the drills conclude, the Legion forms a hollow orbem, creating the arena for four gladiatorial bouts that follow the ancient traditions of the arena. With the final clash complete, the Legion marches out, marking the end of the Roman Night in Igrane.
