Burnum

Witness Rome come alive: legionaries march, gladiators spar, and historic formations rise in Burnum amphitheatre. Meet the living legacy of the Empire beyond the walls.

The Legion in Burnum

In the shadow of the ancient camp at Burnum, the Legion prepares before the eyes of the public. One by one, the soldiers arm themselves — fastening belts, adjusting loricae, securing shields — helping each other as true brothers-in-arms of Rome. Around the camp, gladiators drill and spar, filling the air with the sharp rhythm of combat and the spirit of the arena.

Fully equipped, the Legion forms up and marches into the military amphitheatre of Burnum, where the performance begins. Before the gathered crowd, the soldiers demonstrate Rome’s most iconic maneuvers: the murus, testudo, aciem, orbem, undique cernite, and the tactics that once secured the Empire’s borders. Formations shift, shields close, and the discipline of Rome unfolds in living motion.

Athletes, actors, and legionaries bring a dramatic scene to life — a story shaped by battle, duty, and the world of ancient Dalmatia. The amphitheatre becomes a stage where history rises again, echoing with commands, steel, and the voices of Rome. When the performance concludes, the Legion marches proudly out of the arena and joins the visitors beyond the walls. There, among the ruins of Burnum, soldiers greet the crowd, share stories, and take photos — allowing everyone to stand face to face with the living legacy of Rome.
