DIOCLETIAN’S LEGION IS A STUDENT ORGANISATION
Diocletian’s Legion is a student-led association dedicated to bringing the world of Ancient Rome back to life. Inspired by the IV Legio Flavia Felix, we recreate the power of Rome through legionary marches, battle formations, and gladiatorial spectacles. From Split’s Diocletian’s Palace to historic towns across Croatia and the Balkans, our performances transform history into a living experience.
Alongside our legionaries, we proudly stage gladiatorial duels, reviving the thrill of the arena with choreographed combat rooted in history. Authentic scenography in the Roman style adds a touch of luxury to every event, setting the stage for marches, battles, and cultural displays. From Varaždin, Vinkovci, and Narona to Montenegro, Slovenia, and Romania, the legion performs wherever Roman history still echoes. With every shield raised and formation executed, we carry the spirit of Rome into the present — keeping its legacy alive for generations to come.

Where do we perform
We are located in the beautiful city of Split, founded on Roman foundations. Although we are most active in this area, we also take part in events held throughout Croatia and abroad.
Diocletian’s Legion performs across Croatia and the wider Balkans, bringing history to life in the very places where the Roman Empire once stood strong. From Split, where we march within the magnificent halls of Diocletian’s Palace, the emperor’s own seat, to the historic towns of Varaždin, Vinkovci, Krk, Metković — once ancient Narona — and Burnum near the Krka River, our presence revives the spirit of Rome in landscapes steeped in heritage. Beyond Croatia, our legion carries its banners to Risan in Montenegro, Ptuj in Slovenia, and Alba Iulia in Romania, all historic strongholds of Roman power. At every site, the clash of shields and the roar of battle return to ancient streets and arenas, transforming the past into a living spectacle for today’s audiences.
